Origins
The society was started as The Lindsay Club in 1962. The club was named after Lilian Lindsay the first woman to qualify as a dentist in the UK and a president of the British Dental Association. The formation of the Lindsay Club was the brainchild of a dental surgeon Mr McAuley who was interested in history and had been a friend of Mrs Lindsay and was inspired by his membership of the Osler Club of London. The first meeting of the Lindsay club was held in October 1962 two years after Mrs Lindsay died.
